New generation shingles vaccine

New generation shingles vaccine

"Shingles" (medical term: herpes zoster) is a disease caused by the chickenpox virus. After chickenpox heals, the virus can lie dormant in the human nervous system. As people age, their immune system gradually weakens, the virus can reactivate, and the chance of developing shingles increases. Therefore, anyone who has had chickenpox can develop shingles.

The pain caused by shingles can last for 4 weeks, severely impacting daily life, and may even lead to blindness or deafness.

About 1 in 4 patients may experience postherpetic neuralgia that lasts for several months or years. Anyone who has had chickenpox can develop shingles. About half of patients are 60 years or older. Studies have found that people with diabetes have approximately 2.4 times higher risk of developing shingles than the general population, and about 1.3 times higher risk of developing postherpetic neuralgia; those who have had shingles have a higher proportion of cardiovascular diseases, especially in the first year after shingles, the risk of stroke and heart disease is highest.

Regardless of whether you have previously been vaccinated against herpes zoster, it is recommended to get the new generation herpes zoster vaccine. The vaccine uses non-live antigens (non-live attenuated), and is suitable for immunocompromised individuals!

Vaccination with the new generation herpes zoster vaccine (shingles vaccine) can effectively reduce the chance of developing shingles, with an overall protection efficacy of up to 97%.
Up to 93% efficacy in preventing complications caused by shingles
Up to 100% efficacy in preventing postherpetic neuralgia
